Jean-Denis Haas

Campus Mentor at Animation Mentor
Animatior at Industrial Light & Magic

Jean-Denis Haas was exposed to visual effects since his early childhood by endlessly watching Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to Future and many other movies from ILM. His first memories of going to the movies are of Jungle Book and E.T., but it was the release of Toy Story that actually made him aware that he could animate for a living.

Jean-Denis grew up in Switzerland and by the time he graduated from high school he realized that 3D animation schools were relatively non-existent there. So he decided to move to San Francisco to attend the Academy of Art University (which was called the Academy of Art College back then). With an animation degree in hand and a lot of demo reels sent out, he finally got an internship at Industrial Light & Magic to work on Star Wars, and his childhood dream came true.

Jean-Denis has worked on Star Wars Episode III, Transformers, Indiana Jones and Star Trek among others. He recently finished work as a lead animator on Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. Currently, Jean-Denis is working on James Cameron's Avatar.
