Ray Chase

Mentor at Animation Mentor
Senior Animator at ReelFx

Ray Chase was born in Norfolk, Virginia, and grew up in Gambrills, Maryland. As a kid, he enjoyed watching cartoons, reading Spider-Man comics, eating chocolate chip cookies and playing his Atari 2600 which he would later trade for a Commodore 64. During his high school years, a couple things happened that would change his life..........forever.

The movie, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, was a huge inspiration for him; he saw it eight times in the theater. Around the same time, Disney/MGM studios opened in Orlando, Florida, where guests could watch animators and artists create the magic. Ray would stand for hours watching animators bring drawings to life with dreams of joining them one day.

At the University of Maryland Baltimore County, Ray was first introduced to computer animation. After graduating with a BA in film, he landed an animation freelancing job in nearby Annapolis. The job did not require much creativity since the animation was for clients heading to court. Patent disputes, accident recreations and flying arrows was how he spent his days, but at night he spent his time teaching himself character animation.

Over the next six years, through hard work and perseverance, he produced some truly god awful animation. But he learned a lot and by the end of the '90s he was starting to turn a corner. In the summer of 2000, he was hired by DNA Productions. He headed to Texas, the last place he ever thought he'd end up. At DNA, Ray worked on the Oscar nominated Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron and The Ant Bully.

In 2006, Ray was hired as a senior animator at ReelFx in Dallas. At RFX he has worked on a variety of projects: The Very First Noel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Open Season 2, various commercials for DreamWorks and Hasbro, Transformers: The Game and Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Furious Five.

It was also in 2006 that Ray became a mentor at Animation Mentor.

When he's not animating, Ray enjoys spending time with his family, eating chocolate, pondering life's mysteries, watching LOST and saving the world from the forces of evil.
